don’t believe it when your contractor says:
1. ” use gloss or semi-gloss paint on kitchen and bath walls because you have to be able to clean them.”
First off, when was the last time you washed walls? Most of us just repaint when the walls are dirty.
Second, anyone (like me) who actually does wash walls on occasion knows that scouring powder works just fine on flat finish walls. You may have to use more plain water to get the powder off, but the dirt comes off too.
The problem with gloss or semi gloss paint is that it shows off all the imperfections in the wall- especially in older houses. And it looks ugly!
Use flat wall paint everywhere!
2. “Use dark grout on your tile floor- the grout is going to turn dark anyway with time.”
Unless you are using dark tile don’t do this! With light color tile it looks ugly and dirty and it takes a lo-o-o-ong time for the grout to darken. By then you’ll be ready for a new floor .
3. “Laying the tiles on the diagonal is the same as on a grid , it’s just how you look at it that changes“
oh, please. I fell for this once. thanks alot.
